by Chef Audrey Blake Family Dinners Made Simple~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Now that the abundance of summer fruits and vegetables is waning because of the changing season, and with it comes fading memories of fun barbeques, picnics and out of town trips, it is time to settle back to the routine of family home life. Summer has given us inspiration to get creative with food--our vacation getaways have likely exposed us to new cuisines and new recipes; and such experiences inspired us to plan on preparing all these exciting recipes when we get back to our routines. But after days of our children's frenzied school and social activities, we ask ourselves how and when am I going to find time to prepare all these wonderful new recipes? And, at the same time, how do I make these menus both easy to prepare for me and healthy for my family? I have a simple solution for you: make it part of your daily agenda. All it takes is a quick well-planned trip to the supermarket while your children are at practice or before you pick them up from school, then set aside 20 minutes of your evening for the meal preparation and another 30 minutes to sit down together as a family to share the dinner. As you develop a routine of eating home-prepared meals, dinners will become a fun and anticipated family activity. Just remember to plan quick and simple meals so you do not get overwhelmed by what appears to be another thing to tick off in your daily agenda. Baked recipes can be assembled in the morning, the day before, or right as you get home. Pop them in the oven and take a shower. When you are done, a delicious and healthy dinner is ready for you and your family to enjoy together.
